Uses of ceramic tiles

Verandas and terraces

Did you know that ceramic tile is ideal for all kinds of outdoor applications? Ceramic is perfect for terraces, pathways and verandas, even in continuous indoor-outdoor solutions.

Ceramic floors withstand atmospheric agents and, due to their low porosity, are perfect even in areas that are subject to sudden temperature changes.  There are non-slip finishes on the market that increase safety and can be placed next to swimming pools, gardens and urban pavements.

Nowadays, there are a wide range of formats and models, making it possible to ensure aesthetic continuity with interiors.

Thick floors

Did you know that thick ceramic tile withstands the heaviest loads? Thick ceramic tile withstands even the heaviest loads and can be laid over grass, gravel and sand without adhesives.

Double thick ceramic tiles (20 mm or more) stand out due to their high resistance to breaking load and tensions, as well as their extraordinary non-slip performance. As it is porcelain stoneware, it is ideal for both public and private outdoor environments due to its durability and resistance to frost as well as chemical and atmospheric agents.

It can be placed using adhesives (traditional method), on plots or even dry on gravel, grass or sand, facilitating the replacement there of.

Raised floors

Did you know that ceramic tile is ideal for raised floors? Raised ceramic tile floors are practical and safe for offices, shops and historic buildings, both indoors and outdoors.

Raised technical flooring is a system that came about to respond to the need to hide the large number of facilities that appear in work areas, technical rooms and other places where there is a high density of wiring, tubes and all kinds of pipes. At the same time, these facilities need to be flexible and adaptable so that they can adapt to the different demands of the space throughout the building´s useful life.

It is also a solution that is becoming increasingly used in exterior draining pavements, since water is filtered through open joints.

Pools and spas

On the other hand, its antibacterial properties make it the perfect material for covering surfaces that come in contact with water as well as its resistance to chemical cleaning agents and additives that are used for water conservation, which will make it remain as good as new for years to come.

Facades

Did you know that ceramic tile is perfect for building façades?Ceramic resists atmospheric agents and UV radiation, making it the perfect covering for outdoor façades, even on ventilated walls designed for thermal comfort.

Ceramic coatings have been used since ancient times in exterior cladding, mainly for decorative purposes. Even today we keep traces of Greek, Egyptian and Roman civilizations, which demonstrate the qualities of ceramics to withstand the test of time without alterations. The façade is the first architectural barrier that protects homes from external aggressions.

The ceramic applied on façades constitutes an enclosure which provides thermal protection; against water and moisture; sound; fires and mechanical and chemical attacks. Furthermore, as an aesthetic enclosure it provides luminosity, self-cleaning, colour and expressiveness by providing the possibility of creating “outdoor museums”.

Several studies have shown that using ceramic tiles on façades provides greater integrity and durability. It is also worth highlighting the important technological advances in materials; special pieces; installation systems (cementitious adhesives with specific additives to improve deformability, adhesion, and resistance to external agents); the parallel development of light façade installation systems, with visible and hidden anchors, and the development of the training and progressive specialization of professional installers.  Both things provide high guarantees of adequacy and expand the aesthetic and technical possibilities when it comes to designing façade coverings.

Heated floors

Did you know that ceramic tile is ideal for heated floors? Thanks to its excellent thermal conductivity, ceramic tile is ideal for use on heated floors in all rooms.

Underfloor heating systems are becoming increasingly popular since they have proven to provide the greatest thermal comfort. Thermal comfort is when people are not hot or cold, there is a balance; in other words, when the conditions of humidity, temperature and air movements are favourable to the activity being carrying out, whether it is resting at home, working in our office or walking barefoot in a changing room.

The main advantage of underfloor heating is that it requires a lower temperature (and energy consumption) to achieve thermal comfort, which, according to studies, is at an ambient temperature of 19°C.

It has been proven that ceramic floors are the best performing floors as they have the greatest thermal conductivity. Its higher density also provides for better thermal inertia.

Countertops

Did you know that ceramic tile is ideal for cladding all surfaces?Ceramic tile provides custom solutions for all kinds of surfaces. In the kitchen, it’s ideal for countertops and storage spaces. In the bathroom, for coordinating tops and washbasins with the walls and floor.

As ceramic is a surface with a high resistance to scratches, high temperatures, chemicals, UV rays and stains as well as having very low absorption, it is perfect for use on countertops, both in bathrooms and kitchens. Current technical innovations enable the production of low- thickness ceramic sheets which are ideal for covering any type of surface: whether sinks, furniture, doors, etc.

Furthermore, due to their large size, the joints are minimized, thus improving the aesthetics and hygiene of rooms.
